The City of Baxter (population 9,630) is seeking applicants for the position of Public Works Maintenance II. This is a skilled position that performs or assists in a wide variety of maintenance and repair functions associated with the operation of the municipal water treatment plant, lift stations, water towers, sanitary sewer collection system, potable water distribution system, along with routine building and ground maintenance and minor repair and maintenance of public works equipment.
The required qualifications for the position are: 1) must possess a valid MN Class A driver’s license with tanker endorsement and no air brake restriction or obtain within six months from the date of hire; 2) Obtain Class D Water and Class D or SD Wastewater Collection System licenses within a 6-month probationary period and maintain thereafter; 3) high school diploma or MN Accredited GED; and 4) 18 years of age or older.

Normal work hours are Monday through Friday 7:00a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the ability to work weekends, holidays, and respond to emergency calls during non-scheduled hours. The AFSCME position is classified as Grade 5 with an expected starting rate of pay of $28.38 to $31.01 per hour, based on experience. The 2026 salary range is $28.38 to $35.94 per hour.
