The City of Baxter will be conducting smoke testing of the sanitary sewer system over the next two months. The testing will begin the week of August 27, 2018 and is scheduled to conclude in October.
Voters in the P2W Precinct will no longer vote at Forestview Middle School. Due to safety concerns, ISD 181 asked the City of Baxter to find an alternate location to conduct elections. The City found limited options within the P2W Precinct that would provide adequate accessible space for conducting elections. Statue Statutes allow polling locations to be located within close proximity of the precinct boundary. Lakewood Evangelical Free Church, 6284 Fairview Road, was willing to allow the City to conduct elections in their facility and the facility met all of the requirements to be a polling location. Beginning with the August 14, 2018 Primary Election, voters in the P2W Precinct will now vote at Lakewood Evangelical Free Church.
The remaining polling locations remain unchanged. The other polling locations include: P1W Baxter City Hall, P1E Lord of Life Lutheran Church, and P2E Heritage Church.

The city recently completed its annual audit and prepared the 2017 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR), also known as the city’s financial statements. In 2017, a majority of the city’s governmental operations continued to be funded by the property tax levy, followed by the local option sales tax for eligible capital infrastructure projects.
Capital outlay or capital project related expenditures comprised of 31.4% of the city’s 2017 governmental expenditures. A significant investment in the 2018-2019 Cypress Drive project began in 2017, followed by improvements to Excelsior Road and mill and overlay improvements to various streets last year. The next largest expenditures were debt service and public safety (police, fire protection, and building inspection) at 22.9% and 14.8%, respectively.
A complete copy of the 2017 CAFR can be found on the city’s website under Finance Department.
