The City of Baxter is seeking citizens interested in becoming more active in their city government by serving on the city’s advisory commissions. Seats are currently open on the Utilities Commission, Planning and Zoning Commission, and Parks and Trails Commission. The advisory commissions recommend policy to the city council and advise the city council on a variety of issues. You must be a resident of Baxter to apply.

The Utilities Commission is established to make recommendations to the City Council on the city’s public water system, public sanitary sewer system, public storm water system and public street system with all facilities and equipment necessary to operate them. The Utilities Commission meets the 1st Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the Baxter City Hall.
 
The Planning and Zoning Commission serves as the city’s planning agency and board of appeals and adjustments and shall have the powers and duties given these bodies by M.S. § 462.357, M.S. § 462.358, and M.S. § 462.359, as may be amended from time to time. The Planning & Zoning Commission meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at Baxter City Hall.
 
The Parks and Trails Commission is established to make recommendations to the City Council regarding the development of the city parks and trail systems. The Parks & Trails Commission meets the 4th Monday of each month at 4:00 p.m. at Baxter City Hall.
