This summer the City of Baxter will be sealcoating approximately 10.5 miles of street and 1.5 miles of trails. Some of the benefits associated with sealcoating are:
- Sealcoating forms a protective barrier slowing down oxidation and water penetration by blocking out natural elements such as sun, oxygen and water.
- Sealcoating resists harmful man made elements such as fuel, antifreeze, oil and salt.
- Sealcoating increase pavement surface friction.
The contractor for the project is ASTECH Corporation located in St. Cloud, MN. The contractor anticipates starting the project, weather depending, in mid-July. Residents and businesses in the project area will receive notification from the City, before construction begins, that will provide specific construction and contact information.
Temporary “No Parking” signs will be placed a few days prior to the start of sealcoating. On street parking is normally allowed; however, all vehicles must be off the street from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on the days during sealcoating.Streets may be closed to traffic for approximately 15 – 30 minutes during the asphalt application. Caution should be used when stopping, starting or backing out of your driveway. Turning the steering wheel while stopped will cause damage to the new surface during its curing stage. If you have any questions regarding the 2017 City of Baxter Sealcoating Project please contact the Public Works Department at (218) 454-5115 or email@example.com.
